Through those four years, she filmed and edited over 100 newscasts, feature stories, public service announcements and music videos. Each of her videos were entered into state-wide competitions, leaving her with several district, county and state awards. This led to her decision to pursue Telecommunications at the University of Florida.
Within her first-year at the University of Florida, she was selected as one of 43 Preview Staffers, orientation leaders, for the university through the Dean of Students Office. Through this position she welcomed in over 10,000 freshmen, transfer students, and family members to the university as well as further develop her communication, inclusivity, leadership and organizational skills.

During into her third-year at the University of Florida, Alexis learned how to develop storytelling and multimedia journalist skills across all media platforms. In the summer of 2017, she wrote and voiced radio stories for UF's on-campus news station, WUFT. She also learned how to create on-air content and starred on camera for the First at Five newscast ranging in all topics and durations. In the fall of 2017, she is produced video content for WUFT's First at Five newscast as well as radio content for NPR's All Things Considered segment. Moving forward into the spring of 2018, she became a reporter for WUFT's First at Five newscast. She learned how to pitch, film, edit and write stories for her day-turn shift. She also went live on the First at Five newscast to front the stories she covered.
In the summer of 2018, Alexis participated in a 28-day study abroad program through the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications in which she traveled to Italy. There she learned how to live like an Italian, learned about the Italian culture and took a three-credit class on Ethical Issues in Telecommunications. Once she returned from her trip, Alexis spent the next three months as a WFLA News Channel 8 Intern in Tampa, Florida. While with News Channel 8, Alexis shadowed several reporters and worked alongside the web and social media team. She was even able to produce some of her own content, both on video and web, during her time as an intern.
During her final year at UF, Alexis continued her involvement with the Dean of Students Office and served as the Logistics Coordinator for the Campus Diplomats recruitment process. In this role, she oversaw the planning and scheduling of three rounds of interviews and coordinated over 100 active members during the process. She also helped design and formulate the recruitment theme, T-shirts and social media branding. Alexis also taught an introductory course to freshmen during her senior year. The course, First Year Florida, is a one-credit course introducing first-year students to UF's campus, traditions and expectations. Furthermore, Alexis enhanced her multimedia journalist skills by interning at WCJB TV20 in Gainesville.
